Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday - Blog #5

The song and Music video made by Rebecca Black named Friday is one of the worst songs I have ever heard and one of the silliest videos i have ever seen. For one, the lyrics are awful and just kind of stupid, and secondly, her voice is auto-tuned and it still doesn't sound good. The lyrics are about her Friday and how she wakes up and gets ready for school and doesn't know what seat to take in her friend’s car, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS ONLY 13 AND SHE SHOULDN'T BE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO CAN DRIVE. Her voice is really nasally, and it's insanely annoying. This song was everywhere for about a month before it kind of disappeared, which doesn't surprise me because everyone finally realized how awful it is. The video in general is just kind of silly, and then there is a random black guy singing, and it just doesn't really make sense to me. I just despise the song and I would be perfectly content never hearing it again.

Party Hard, Don't work- Blog #4

Jersey Shore is a show about young adults who live on the Jersey Shore for the summer. This show is ridiculously stupid and over-rated. I think that the whole concept of the show is stupid and I don't know how anyone can actually stand these people. Some of them are legitimately stupid and don't know anything and others are really rude, and unpleasant and spoiled. This show is meant for an older teen audience yet parents let their 11 year old watch this show. I would never let my child do that because there is so much sex, alcohol, and bad language. Although it is sometimes entertaining because they do such stupid things, I don't think I'd actually be able to watch the show for a long period of time, let alone follow it and watch it every week because I would just get fed up with the crazy lifestyle these people have (and fed up with their craziness as well because they aren’t the type of people I would hang out with).

Weird and Wacky World of BeetleJuice- Blog # 3

In my opinion I think that the movie Beetlejuice is a really good movie. I enjoy all of Tim Burton’s movies because I like the style, and the weirdness to his style. I think that Tim Burton has a unique style and that shines through his movies. Beetlejuice is one of the most well known out of his movies and I think that this movie has a story and concept that has never really been made before. I like the whole story and how they portrayed the characters, and I like the way they made the movie humorous with the dialogue and the actions of the characters. Watching this movie I wasn't as freaked out as I was when I first watched it when I was younger, but I think that it does a good job of working for most age groups, because it's interesting for teens and adults, younger kids could also watch it if they weren't affected by "scary" things. I think that  the movie overall is really weird, but it keeps you interested because it's something different from the typical movie because of the stylistic elements Tim Burton adds to it.

Bridal uh oh! Blog # 2

Bridal plasty is a show where brides compete to get plastic surgery so that they can be the "perfect" them for their wedding day. This show is ridiculous and gross and I don't know why anyone would go on this. One, plastic surgery is awful, and it doesn't even make you look that good, and you don't look anything like you did before so your husband probably won't even recognize you on your wedding day (NOT GOOD). Two, you just make other people feel bad especially those girls who say they need liposuction and they are already super thin. It’s putting down women who are already beautiful and making them think they need to get surgery to look beautiful when that is not the case. okay, it's not as bad if you get one surgery or something like that, but getting like 12 for things that aren't even a problem, it's stupid, and some of these women say they are doing it for their fiancés or whatever but obviously if you are getting married he liked you before so why would you change yourself? It doesn't really make sense to me.

This is Heidi Montag before and after plastic surgery, personally i think she looked better before.

Robbery of entertainment : Mini-Review # 1

The Great Train Robbery was a movie made in 1903. I found it EXTREMELY boring and slow. Although there were a couple entertaining parts, overall I found the movie really slow and dragged on. I don't like black and white films because I find it boring to watch because there is nothing to grab your attention, and it just blends together.  I don't think it was a bad movie, it's just not one of my interests (older movies) and I didn't find it entertaining at all (which a movie is supposed to be). I think that it had a decent plot idea for the time period but because of the time period's technology it wasn't that well done. I just don't like those types of movies (historical, black and white) because it doesn't keep my attention and I am not interested in those subjects. I think that the actual robbery scene was ridiculous in that it was just stupidly done, because there was only like two robbers and about 30 people, and they could have easily taken over the robbers and I just didn't like it.

Pop Punk- A Fusion Music Genre

Pop punk emerged in the late 1970's. The term was first used in 1977 in a New York Times article called "Cabaret: Tom Petty's Pop Punk Rock Evokes Sounds of 60s." It has been popular since the 1990's when Green Day and The Offspring first came into the music world. I don't think the genre has changed much since it first emerged, but I think it has become a more popular genre and a more accepted genre. The main influences that shaped the beginning of pop punk are the protopunk and power pop bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
I think some important artists that first impacted this genre are the Ramones and Bad Religion (these two bands helped lay the ground work for punk rock), and The Vandals (First began mixing hardcore punk with pop music). I think the bands that are most well known and made the most impact on the pop punk genre would be Green Day, The Offspring, Sum 41, and All Time Low.
The genre of pop punk is considered a fusion music genre because it mixes the catchy-ness of pop music melodies with the speedy punk tempos. It is considered radio friendly but still maintains much of the speed and attitude of classic punk rock.

C'mon- Panic at the Disco! and Fun

In too Deep- Sum 41

Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)- The Offspring

I think the reoccurring theme in pop punk music is teenage romance, and teenage drama. In teenage romance they usually talk about the ups and downs of relationships or sex or how they love someone. In teenage drama they talk about how hard life is and how hard it is to be a teenager and all the pain you go through of getting heartbroken or losing someone. Two songs that I think best exemplify these themes would be Little Things by Good Charlotte and Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day.

RiP: Are you getting ripped off?

I think the filmmaker made this film to show the unfairness in the copyright laws and express the impact downloading and remixing has on our society today. His intention was to expose the government and the ridiculous laws they have made to prevent people from being creative. The film maker made this film because he's against these laws and wants to change it by bringing awareness to people and making people stand up for what they think is right. I agree that people should be able to remix songs and make something new out of pieces of music. I think that without older music, we wouldn't have any of the new music we have today. Just because they aren't physically taking other people's music and making a new song doesn't mean people don't copy other people. I think that as long as you give credit to the artist it should be fine to use a piece of their song (just not copy the whole song).

I think it is okay to have somewhat of a bias when you are trying to get other people to support your side of the argument, but I think they should have a fair representation of the other side of the argument. I think this film portrays the other side as very unfair and says that it doesn't have any justified means to do what they are doing (charging people for taking music without paying for it). I don't think the film successfully interviewed the other side because they only really interviewed one person, and the rest were just clips of people making them sound like they didn't care and they just wanted to make money.
I think it should be okay to download something and change it into something else, as long as you give credit to the original artist, and you don't just copy everything word for word (or whatever you want to call copying the song exactly the same to what it was). I think using parts of other films in your own film to prove a point or just to use because you don't have the effects you want is okay, as long as you again, give credit where it's due. I would be okay with someone using my art and changing it into their own as long as people knew they got the original idea from me as the artist.
