Citizen Kane- it's really just black and white

Watching Citizen Kane for the first time, I did not enjoy it, and found it boring to watch. I think this is a movie I wouldn't have watched on my own time, because it's not really a genre I am interested in (black and white, historical) and not something I would have picked up just because it wouldn't have caught my eye .One of the reasons I didn't like it was because I don't like black and white movies (I think it is because there is nothing to grab my attention and everything seems to blend in). Another reason I didn't like this movie is because the whole plot of the story isn't something I am interested in, (politics, and history) therefore it just dragged on. I think the movie is good for the time period it was made, and all of the special effects that were used and I was surprised at some of the things that were done in the movie, such as the camera coming from above and shooting something down below and the focus of different pieces in a scene. As well I think the movie is well made, and put together well with the plot and story line, and the way the movie was shot using different techniques. It is a good movie, just not for me.

Sorry, better luck next time Mr. Kane ;)

Music Video Analysis

Avril Lavigne - What the Hell

The reality in this video is presented as you can do anything without consequences. I think this because in the video Avril Lavigne steals a cab, and crashes it into another car, yet she doesn't get in trouble or anything. I think it's presented this way because it's showing that she doesn't care anymore, and she's just having fun.

This video uses the general stereotype of pop music which is parties, dancing, and attractive people. Another symbol for pop music is that it's about a girl and a guy.

The values that are expressed in this video are that she doesn't care what people think, or what she does and that she can do whatever she wants. Another value that is expressed is that it's okay to make out with your boyfriend's friend, and your boyfriend will still want to be with you. (I wouldn't if I was him, just sayin')

I think it would appeal to teenagers because it’s about teenage life, and relationships. I think it shows things that teenagers are interested in and what teenagers do on a daily basis, like go to parties and hangout with guys or girls.

I think overall this is a good music video because it matches the song, and it goes well with what the song is saying. I also think it's creative and different from other music videos because it has a story throughout the whole thing and it doesn't cut in and out from a story to her singing on stage or something like that

Media Profile

Media in my life:

I believe that media is very important in my life. It is something I use every day. Whether its movies, music, or television I’m almost always using it in some way. Sometimes I wish I didn't use media as much because it seems like now that I’ve used it so much, I can't live without it (which isn't always a good thing).

My Top Three:

Music: Music is one of the most important types of media to me because it's a way to show your personality and what you like and dislike. In a lot of songs there is a meaning or story and many people can connect with songs because they are going through the same thing or feeling the same way. For example I know a few songs that I listen to when I’m happy because the songs are upbeat and it matches my mood. I listen to music everyday for at least a couple hours, while doing homework, or just browsing the internet my music is on. I usually put my radio on and it stays on all day until I’m about to go bed.

Movies: Movies is another important type of media in my life because it gives me a form of entertainment and occupies me when I have nothing to do. Another reason movies are so important is because when I watch a movie it's like escaping reality and living someone else’s life (for a couple hours anyways).

Texting: Texting is an important type of media in my life because I use it to communicate with all of my friends. I think without texting I wouldn't talk to anyone as much because I’d be too shy to actually talk to them. I've become dependent on a cell phone as my way of communication and I don't know if I could talk to people otherwise. I find texting simpler then calling or going up to someone because if you just have one thing to say it would be pointless to call them and tell them one thing and then hang up.

Modern pop culture:
I think some things are overexposed and over-used. For example I think they overplay a lot of songs and it just makes them annoying. A lot of celebrities are overexposed and can't do anything without it being on the news, or in a magazine, which isn't fair to them, and no one needs to know every single thing in their lives. I like the new ways of communicating, but in some cases it isn't good because people start losing the skills to talk in front of an audience, and they lose social skills. I dislike the fact that everything is centered around celebrities and their lives because a lot of important social issues sometimes don't get as much publicity as they should. I use media as a way of communication, entertainment and a way to get my mind of things (kind of like something to de-stress myself)

Desert island choices:

The three types of media I would choose would be music, television and video games.

Music: Recovery (Eminem album)

This album came out in 2010 by Eminem. Eminem is one of my favourite artist's just because I like the meaning of a lot of his songs and the emotion. This album specifically has a lot of meaning included in the songs. My favourite song on this album would be "Space Bound" because of the lyrics and the story in it.

Television: Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo has been my favourite cartoon since I was little. I decorated my room all Scooby doo when I was like 7 and I have all the movies. This Christmas I got all the old Scooby-Doo episodes on DVD. I like Scooby-Doo because I find it funny, and I just like the characters

Video game: Crash Bandicoot

My favourite video game of all time would be the Crash Bandicoot video games. This is because I like the funny characters, and the adventure part of the game. I’ve been playing these games since I was around 7 years old. I find the games entertaining as well as challenging at some points. I like the villains in the game because they always look funny and talk funny.
